Marine 2-1 Tranmere

Marine 2-1 Tranmere

Tranmere's fourth game of the pre season campaign ended in defeat against Marine at the Arriva Stadium on Saturday.

Eight of the team who finished the match against Rhyl on Friday night started this encounter, but Danny Holmes and Liam Ridehalgh were missing through injury.

Our hosts started the brightest and Owain fon Williams had to be on his toes to keep an early free kick out of the net after only five minutes, but Marine took the lead with the very next attack in the game.

This seemed to spark Tranmere into some life and chances fell to trialist Gerardo Bruna who shot wide from 25 yards on the 13 minute mark, and youth scholar Mitch Duggan then fired across goal and wide shortly after. Cole Stockton did bring a save out of their keeper on 17 minutes, and Jason Koumas in his first appearance of pre season made the keeper tip the ball over from the top left hand corner with a dipping 30 yarder now long after.

Further chances fell our way, with much the same result. The keeper stopped them or they went high and/or wide.

How we went into the half time break not even on level terms is still probably puzzling the players now given the opportunities we had.

The second half was much the same, we opened with another series of chances that should've been buried but see above for keeper, high and/or wide and that was pretty much the story of the game.

Eventually we did get back on level terms through substitute Eliot Richards.

Despite all our pressure and dominance on chances through, the hosts retook the lead 14 minutes from time when the referee awarded them a penalty for a foul, although it seemed their player just missed the ball when taking aim and hit an air shot falling in the process.

A disappointing defeat that shouldn't have ended in defeat, but positives to be taken for another run out and the positives we can take from creating so many chances - the lesson is to be more clinical though.

Tranmere:

Fon Williams, Gumbs, Ihiekwe (Shaw 58), Holness (Boland 58), Dodd, Bruna (Jago 58), Laird (Power 58), Gill (Kirby 58), Koumas (Richards 58), Duggan (Odejayi 58), Stockton.

Tranmere fail to take chances in home defeat

A valiant effort from Tranmere wasn`t enough on the day as goals late in both half`s handing Huddersfield all three points.

The scoreline failed to paint the whole picture, with the homes side outplaying their second-placed opponents for large parts of the game. In fact, the Whites should have equalised through Adam McGurk in the second-half with the gap between the two teams at a single goal.

There were three changes made to the side that lined-up in the goalless draw at Oldham on
