'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Preston 1 Tranmere 0

20th April 2013
15:00
Deepdale

Preston remain unbeaten at Deepdale under Simon Grayson since his appointment following the weekend win over Tranmere.

Having been denied by the post from one freekick John Welsh was then denied with another freekick when Owain fon Williams produced a good save.

It wasn't all Preston though, Bailey Wright almost turned into his own net to give Tranmere the lead but the post spared his blushes with Declan Rudd forced into a good save too.

However the lead was gained by the hosts deep into first half injury-time when Jeffrey Monakana (45+3) riffled home after a Will Hayhurst effort had been cleared off the line.

Monakana almost had another in the second half with The Lilywhites looking the most likely to add more goals, but 1-0 was enough. Defeat for Tranmere ended their play off hopes after they had, for so long, looked as though they would go up automatically, if not win the League One title!
